Russell “Gregg” N. Gregory

MOHAWK - Russell “Gregg” N. Gregory, age 93, formerly of State Rt. 5-S, Mohawk, died on Monday, July 26, 2010, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer.

He was born on August 23, 1916, in Lee, NY, the son of Norman and Alice (Russell) Gregory, and was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Rome, NY. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Force. On December 23, 1975, he married Dorothy (Metott) Hellings in Ilion. On August 2, 1997, they were married at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, by Fr. Nabozny. Dorothy died on February 3, 2010. Russell was an inspector at Chicago Pneumatic Co., Utica, NY, and later worked with his wife, Dorothy, at Three Maples Rest Home in Mohawk. Mr. Gregory was a communicant at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer.

Survivors include his nephew, Ernest Weissmuller and his wife, Margaret, of Westernville, NY; his niece, Joyce Smith and her husband, John, of Blacksburg, VA; two stepsons, Lawrence Hellings and his wife, Lois, of OH, and Thomas Hellings and his wife, Patricia, of Mohawk; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and friend, Carolyn Goodhines, of Frankfort. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Metott and infant sister.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Fr. Mark Cunningham, Pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, officiating. Interment will be in Lee State Rd. Cemetery, town of Lee, NY. Visitation will be Thursday, July 29, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon, prior to the funeral home service.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home.

All funeral and burial services were prearranged and are entrusted to long time family friend, Don Applegate, Funeral Director.
