Who's got the best marriage proposal?

UTICA, February 6, 2010 -- Radio station 92.7 The Drive and Keeler in the Morning are launching a romantic and unique contest for Central New Yorkers -- Central New York's Best Marriage Proposal.

"This is an awesome way or somebody to get a huge part of their wedding paid for," said radio show host Bill Keeler. "We're looking for the craziest idea for someone to propose marriage."

WHAT YOU GET

Listeners with a love interest are being asked to submit their idea of an outrageous and unique marriage proposals, competing for a major grand prize.

  • $500 toward a limousine
  • $1,000 toward the reception
  • $500 toward a wedding gown
  • $500 toward a tuxedo
  • $400 toward a wedding photo album
  • $1,000 toward an engagement ring OR wedding bands

"This is a new joint venture and really, everything goes," said Alberto Foti, director of customer relationships at Harris Brothers & Co. Jewelers.

Foti is a self-professed true proponent of love and wedded bliss.

“I believe in l’aventura amore – “the adventure of love," he said.

CONTEST SUCCESSFUL IN PAST


Foti said he has been involved in similar promotions and had seen some excellent ideas.

"One in particular was this guy several years ago whose girlfriend was a teacher in the Syracuse school district,"  he explained. "Her school came out to the Utica Zoo for a seminar and she was there. Her boyfriend was dressed up as a tiger in the cage and got down on one knee to propose."

THE CONTEST

  • People are asked to email write in or call in with their idea of a proposal
  • Keeler in the Morning and the companies involved with the contest will pick their top three favorites
  • There will be one grand prize winner and two runners-up
  • For the winner to truly win, their proposal has to be accepted. If not, the prize goes to next runner up.
