UTICA, March 11, 2010 -- If you love to travel, Mohawk Valley Community College is offering some courses which will make the journey even more enjoyable.

These courses, offered through the Center for Corporate and Community Education, will help you understand the language, slash the cost of traveling and then show you how to preserve the memories. These programs include:

Conversational Vietnamese: Learn the basics of the language spoken in one of the new hot Asian destinations. This basic course will cover the tones and diacritics, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar needed for traveling and making new friends. The dialect taught will be that of southern Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s economic powerhouse. This course will be held each Thursday, between April 1 and May 6, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., on the Utica Campus. The cost is $50.

Make Money While Traveling Free: In this challenging economy, there is a way to save money and travel free. National speaker Gina Henry has lived this life for 25 years, traveling to 80 countries and 40 states with free air tickets, hotels, tours, cruises, meals, and more. She will teach you how to earn extra income on vacations, seek vacation tax deductions, maximize frequent flyer miles and get “bumped.” She’ll show how teaching English on vacation, writing articles, shooting photos, and volunteer work can help you to travel for free. Learn about money-saving travel web sites, packing light, safety, health and language tips. There is a $15 material fee along with the $29 cost for the class. This class will be held Saturday, May 15, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m on the Utica campus.

Scrapbooking for Beginners: This fun course will teach students the basics of putting together an organized and creative scrapbook. They will learn how to preserve treasured keepsakes, so that they can be kept and stored away for years to come. Materials will be provided for students by instructor Stacey Paolozzi. This class will be held Saturday, April 10, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on the Rome Campus. The cost is $30.

Enrollment is limited and will be taken on a first come basis.  For information or to register, call 792-5300 or visit www.mvcc.edu/cced. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Friday. All MVCC non-credit instruction is completely self-supporting, including indirect costs, and requires no public funding.
