Utican awarded musical fellowship

UTICA, June 21, 2010 -- Grace Church Organ Scholar Timothy DavisWins National Organ Fellowship Timothy Davis of Utica has been awarded an E. Power Biggs Fellowship by the Organ Historical Society, and is attending the society’s national convention in Pittsburgh, PA, with organists from around the nation and the world.

Timothy is the Emily Clark Bink Organ Scholar at Grace Episcopal Church, where he is a member of the choir. He most recently performed the “Overture to the Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart, transcribed for him for organ by Victor Searle. At Grace Church, Timothy performs on the organ at both regular services and at special services, including Utica Monday Nite events, where he has played “Festmusik” by Mons Takle and other works by modern and classical composers.

Timothy, who has performed on the organ for Welsh Gymanfa Ganu (hymn sings) at various churches, has also assisted Yale University Professor / Organist Thomas Murray during his Grace Church concert in 2009. Timothy studies organ with Stephen Best.

This spring, Timothy was awarded the Mary M. McGinty Memorial Award at the April 25th 2010 B Sharp Musical Club Scholarship Competition Concert at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute for his piano performance of Haydn’s Sonata in F. He has also been awarded a Grace Curran Musical Scholarship. Timothy has won five superior ratings in solo piano at Syracuse's annual festival of the National Federation of Music Clubs. Timothy studies piano with Colleen Roberts Pellman of Hamilton College, and recently participated in a Hamilton College Master Class with Wei-Yi Yang of Yale University’s School of Music.

Timothy, who will be in 11th grade this fall at Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica,  is a member of the Proctor High School Orchestra, where he plays first violin and piano / keyboards. Timothy also plays piano for the Proctor Jazz Ensemble and plays violin in the Moose Ensemble. He is a two-time violinist at Area All-State Orchestra and a three-time first violinist at All-County Orchestra. He studies violin with Taras Bohach.

He has participated in the New York State School Music Association Festivals in 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, and 2006.

Timothy is a member of the Central New York Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and is also a member of Junior B-Sharp, having qualified on organ, violin and piano.
